Floodpath
About
Built out of the need to keep us safe
Born Out Of Necessity
The idea for FloodPath was born in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. As the storm hit the area, my family and I were driving home from a loved one's house on a night that proved to be incredibly dangerous. A family member, who left shortly after us and took the same route, encountered deep standing water that caused their SUV to float and become pinned against a guardrail. Thankfully, the swift water rescue team arrived in time to get them out safely. This close call underscored the need for better awareness and preparation in our community. The first version of FloodPath plots crowd sourced problematic roads and intersections on a map, based on typical flooding patterns during heavy rainstorms. While this initial version does not provide real-time information, the goal is to empower our community with knowledge to make safer travel decisions. If the community adopts this tool, I plan to invest further in incorporating real-time notifications, crowdsourced from local residents.
